    prendere alle spalle

    Come tradurre:

...(un uomo)... "fu preso alle spalle dal passato".

I thought perhaps: a man... who was grabbed from behind by the past, ... whose past grabbed him from behind, ... whose past grabbed him unexpectedly.

    Any ideas? Grazie!

    Re: prendere alle spalle

    Hi there!
In this case, if you don't have to stick to a proper literal translation, I'd use some expression like "backstabbed by his own past" which is shorter, clearer and i'd say more evocative.

    Hope it helps.
