    Uso del posesivo "its"

Why this airline doesn’t produce its own planes?

Normalmente, se diría "Why doesn't this airline produce its own planes?"

If you think that, you have another think coming!

Agreed. The only exception would be when it was embedded in a statement like "you ask why this airline doesn't..." But that, of course, is no longer a question.

    Re: Uso del posesivo "its"

"Its" is used for everything except people and animals (and for sailors, ships). And by people, I mean humans, not juridical persons.

As for animals, if the speaker doesn't know the sex of the animal or is not knowledgeable about the animal, he might use "its." So a person from the city might refer to a farm animal as "it" whereas the farmer would more likely use "his" or "her."

And people sometimes use "its" to refer to a baby if they don't know its sex. If they refer to a baby as "it" in the presence of a parent, they will promptly be corrected: "He's a boy!" or "She's a girl!" Same for household pets.

Sailors customarily refer to ships as though they were female.
