I'm a little bit confused about this word so I wonder if you could help me translate a sentence like this:

    ο αχός της μάχης

    Cheers!

    Or maybe this sentence:

Η Θεσσαλονίκη στον αχό του πολέμου και της πυρκαγιάς

    Hi,

αχός = ήχος (sound). You can see also here.

To me, in this particular sentence ''Η Θεσσαλονίκη στον αχό του πολέμου και της πυρκαγιάς'', αχός relates to ''reverberating sound, resound, ring (syn αντίλαλος 2, απόηχο 1)''
    - as indicated already by Perseas in this extract

    Thanks for your help!

Even though αχός is a synonym to ήχος I seem to find it, almost exclusively, in the midst of terms like war, struggle or fight. So I guess that gives me a fair idea of the words connotations.

    Thanks again!
