The whole sentence is the following (a title on the KP): Байкера на Трешке избила банда автоподставщиков?
Is автоподставщик a car supplier? what is a "подставщик"? Is it the same as a "поставщик"?

    Many thanks

No, it's not a supplier. It's a cheater who intentionally provokes car accidents to gain money.

Just to clarify: подставщик - from подставлять, i.e. нарочно подставлять свою машину под другую машину (под удар другой машины).

I never thought this word originated from "подставлять машину под удар", but rather from a slang word "подстава". But I could be wrong of course.

I think it is directly from подставлять, because never heard подставщик in any other context, i.e. as one who is making подстава in general sense (not on the road). But I could be wrong either, of course.
