    Hello everyone!

It may sound a bit weird, but a friend of mine, many years ago, found in a small island in the middle of Tagus river, in Lisbon, Portugal, near the Atlantic Ocean, a small bottle with a small piece of paper with funny writing.

His daughter tried to get it identified/translated, but they didn't even know what language is.

Does anyone has an idea about in which language is this?

    Thanks!

It appears to be Arabic. I think I can make out the first three words as bi-smi llahi r-raHmaan, "in the name of God the merciful", a common opening, but the calligraphy defeats me beyond that. Post this question in the Arabic forum and you should get help from native speakers.

    Yes,
It starts with Bismi-llahi-rahman... In the name of God the most merciful. And a prayer for God Allahumma Salli 3ala Sayyidina Muhammad... (praying for God's peace to come upon the prophet and his companions).
    Then the rest is cut.

Yes, the rest is cut, but I'll post it complete.

    Thanks to both!

    EDIT:

    Here is the rest:

    Once again, thank you!

    EDIT2:

Can this writing be traced to some specific country/region?

    Thanks!

It gets too tangled in the rest of the text, and the photo quality is not helping either.

As for the writing, I don't think it's place-specific. But maybe other forum members can help you more.

This is the Arabic Text in the message:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم . اللهم صل على سيدنا محمد وعلى آله وصحبه وسلم . وعد الله الصابرين المخرج مما يكرهون والرزق من حيث لا يحتسبون وجعلنا الله وإياكم من الذين لا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون . له ما سكن في الليل والنهار وهو السميع العليم . له ما سكن في الليل والنهار وهو السميع العليم

    Thank you, ahmedcowon!

I definitely will learn arabic in the near future... It has one of the most beautiful writings in world...

With Google Translate, I found - and as cherine kindly said - that it is, in fact, a prayer. However, I often doubt about Google "translations"...

Could you help me with that?

    Thanks, once again!

    Yes, it's a prayer. Here's a non-literal translation:

In the name of God the Most Merciful. God, send Your peace to the Prophet, his family and his companions. God promised those who withstand hardships to save them from their hardships and to reward them. May God make us and you among those who will have no worries. He own everything in the world, He is the most knowledgable.
