Why is there a "か" in "つもりだったかっていうと"? I'm not sure of the translation of the first half of the sentence so I can't locate where the question might be.

When it comes to speaking about if I was going to be an astronaut...

つもりだったのかと言うと、is more formal and easy to understand?

To be frank with you, if you ask me "Did you want to be an astronaut from the beginning?", the answer is "No."

”か” is the question maker, okay?

This Japanese sentence isn't interrogative. This か isn't making an interrogative phase '~か?', but works like a conjunction as well as that of English does. But you mdbvma have already known about that?

Thank you, I'm fine now. I was confused when reading the sentence because it was provided without a great deal of context and I couldn't think of what the subject of "いう" would be. I understand now that "かと言うと" would translate into English in this case as "If you were to ask me 'Did you intend to become an astronaut right from the start' then the answer is no.

Thank you, mdbvma, for your translation.
    I think it's a correct translation.
