天慢慢亮了

    the 亮了 in this sentence serves as a verb.
    So can I say : it's getting light outside. ??

    or what's the english equivalent word for 亮了 ?

    Just as you said, "it's getting light outside" is perfect.

    Incidentally, in your question, could you include the sentence you ask about? I know that you had it in the title but it's better and clearer to repeat it inside the post.

    Can I also say, "it's getting bright outside"? Is it better or worse than "it's getting light outside"?

    Bright should be ok as well.
    but
    'bright' is : producing a lot of light.
    i personally think
    getting light is more suitable for the sentence 天慢慢亮了

    waiting others' thoughts/
