모습을/모습이 보고 싶다

    In the book I'm reading, the following sentence appears: "해가 지는 모습을 보고 싶습니다." It also appears another time as "해가 지는 모습이 보고 싶습니다."

    I don't understand how 모습이 can be correct. Does it not have to be 모습을? (As the direct object of 보다.)

    Yes, you're right. But according to 국립국어원, there is an exception to it. When you want to lay an emphasis on the sunset image, you can also use 이 in place of 을.

    For examples:
    1. 나는 백두산 제일 보고 싶다.
    2. 나는 김밥먹고 싶다.
