Am translating an Italian book. An Italian fighter talks about the front line's being on the "montagne dello Spitarit," the mountains of the Spitarit. Spitarit, then, is clearly some garbled Albanian word or place name. Does anyone know what it could be? The area is the back country of Vlorë, in southern Albania, near a tiny town called Messaplik.

Okay, I found the answer myself. Another Italian called the mountain "Spadarit," and from there I found the Albanian name: "Mali i Shpiragut," or "Mount Shpirag," apparently. Here's an interesting picture of the mountain, near Berat, complete with the former dictator's name painted on its flank.
