approach a new topic

    Hi all,
    If I were trying to sound persuasive and confident (!) how could I say:
    If I was approaching a completely new topic then, just as in English, I would have to familiarise myself with the new terminology.

    My effort is below:
    Se eu abordasse um tema novo, tais como em Ingles, eu precisara me habituar com o novo vocabulario.

    I am really not sure about the correct verb for 'approach,' but I know aproximar-se doesn't sound correct. Also, I am not sure if the above is overly formal, it is meant for spoken conversation.

    Se eu fosse abordar um tema novo, tal como no Inglês, eu precisaria me habituar/familiarizar com o novo vocabulário/ a nova terminologia.

    Anyway, there is always a different varied way to say the same thing. It's only a matter of personal choice. :)

    Tal como em inglês. Lembrando, mais uma vez, que as línguas não se escrevem com inicial maiúscula em português. Não precisamos copiar mais essa, não é verdade?
