I know it's a stupid question but is there in English a difference in the use of prize and award?

    Hi Roy76,

It's not really a silly question, but have you looked these up in the dictionary? You can also find a few other discussions of this issue here in the English only forum. I found these by typing both words together into the Dictionary look-up box (set to English definition):

    Prize or award?
    award vs prize

There's no such thing as a stupid question. I can't see any difference between the definitions but I think there may be some slight differences in usage. Having said that, I'm sure that they can almost always be used interchangeably and differences in usage are probably rather arbitrary.

I haven't thought to check the English Forum, sorry!
Now, the slight difference is crystal clear!
    Thank you both
