beam / girder

    Hey! I would like to know what the difference between a beam and a girder is. I checked out their meanings in a dictionary and apparently both of them mean viga.... Here you have the sentences where I found these words. I'll be very grateful for any help =) Ciao

    1. The wall was supported by a thick metal girder
    2. We have to replace an old oak beam which supports the ceiling.
