best tailors in America

    I'm reading Fitzgerald's books, and I saw that more than once he uses "America", like in "he knew the best tailors in America".

    I was wondering whether he refers to the USA or to the whole continent. And, if you were to rewrite/translate it nowadays, what would you choose?

    En Estados Unidos y otros países:
    Estados Unidos se dice 'America'
    América se dice 'the Americas'
