Bien obligé, sinon je reçois des baffes

    Context: a young man who never smiles is being encouraged to do so.

    - Essaie.
    - Mon œil, je dis.
    - Tu es poli pourtant, Moïse?
    - Bien obligé, sinon je reçois des baffes.

    Despite knowing all the words the sense somehow eludes me.

    - Thanks for saying that but you will have to slap me to make me do it.(???)

    Am I on the right track? What does this short sentence mean?

    He says he has to (be polite) or else he gets slapped.
