    Hy, guys.

Can't understand the meaning of the word "canny" on a list of notes from a book:

Roy Y. J. Chua and Xi Zou (Canny), "Effects on Exposure to Luxury Goods on Cognition", New York: Harvard Press, 2001.

Could it be the American nickname of this guy Xi Zou?

It has to be a nickname. Here goes another paper from Xi "Canny" Zou (note typography here).
This is a nice cultural question.
About Chinese using English names. Some of those names are weird. I know a lady whose English name is Benz. Yes, as in Mercedes Benz :).
