    Hello people!

I have to translate the following phrase: ". . . castigo de prestamos contra incobrables." I believe that since the borrower is not able to return the loan, the amount he owes should be taken from the account "Reserve for bad debts" and the loan cancelled on the books.

If this is so, how do you say this in U.S. English?

    Thank you for your help!
