columns <in /of> a matrix

    I am writing a scientific paper and have small issues with "of" and "in". My teacher and I are arguing on this case :

    I have written "Filtering columns of a matrix", and he says that it should be "Filtering columns in a matrix".

    The former looks correct for me.
