"comprises" or "is comprised by"

    Which of the following sentences is correct?

    1. The information comprises a large number of elements.
    2. The information is comprised by a large number of elements.

    Which of them do you think is correct? Why?

    In my opinion, the first sentence is correct.
    The second sentence sounds weird.

    I agree with you.
    Despite the apparent internet enthusiasm for "is comprised by", I don't believe I have ever seen it before and I certainly wouldn't use it.
