    This term appears in an abbreviated profit and loss account for a motor company and forms part of a list under the sub heading of supplying and purchasing

    consumo de mercaderias

    I'd go for "consumption of goods", but it looks a bit weird. Could anyone verify/correct this?
    Many thanks in advance

    Hi Mes:

    Additional context would be necessary, however in broad terms and in an accounting context, I´d translate "consumo de mercaderías" into English as "consumption of inventory".

    To give more context, the complete text is an "abbreviated" annual financial statement (36 pages worth!!) and the section where the term appears is a list like this:

    profit and loss account;

    net business turnover;

    supplying/purchasing (I'm not too sure right now whether "aprovisionamiento" is one or the other);

    consumo de mercaderias

    Hope that helps
    Thanks and best wishes

    Hi Mes:

    Well, in that case, I think that either "consumption of goods" or "consumption of inventory" are fine.
