Hi there, How to render "correndovi in mezzo" in this context?:

    My try:

The schoolbus, which had slowed down for a red light, took off again as soon as it turned green, and a cloud of smoke erupted from the exhaust pipe. Peter held his breath as he was running through it [there in the middle]. One breath, and his lungs would have collapsed

I take "vi" as it is used here to be an adverb of place used redundantly, right?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi zip404,

'Vi' it has been used to indicate that Peter went through the smoke (that is He run through the smoke came out from the pipe). Vi ('all'interno di...')
