    Hi,
how can I translate the following sentence? The text is on the late antique archaeology.

E' un esperto di cultura figurativa tardoantica e paleocristiana
He is an expert in late antique and early Christian figurative culture.

    Grazie

Hi ale - "late antique archaeology" is OK but in your sentence where there is no noun following "late antique" it sounds strange to me.
Can you make it a looser translation and turn it around?
......an expert in figurative culture of late antiquity and early Christian periods.

    Something like that.

Actually, your earlier translation was absolutely fine. It's OK to say "of late antiquity", too (as jvf suggests, although I prefer upper case: Late Antiquity), but if anything I prefer your version, in terms of standard terminology and readability (ie "He is an expert in late antique and early Christian figurative culture", although here, too, I have a preference for "Late Antique").
