If I am writing a job application cover letter and am not able to find out who exactly is going to read my e-mail, is it appropriate to use "Dear Sir or Madam"?

Also, I'll be sending my CV and cover letter as attachments: do I also start the actual e-mail with "Dear Sir or Madam" and end it with "Yours sincerely"? What is the proper etiquette?

Do you have any other suggestions regarding sending my CV and cover letter?

Thanks in advance! I'd appreciate any tips at all!

Thank you for the recommendations! These threads do contain really valuable information.

However, I still have one question: is it ok to write "Dear Sir or Madam" and "Yours sincerely" in both the cover letter and the e-mail that the cover letter is attached to?

    Thanks!
