The dictionary gives this translation, but I don't know if it's right: стоматолог-гигиенист

In the U.S., in a dentist's office, there is often a specially trained dental assistant whose job is largely devoted to cleaning teeth. This is the dental hygienist. I've been told that in Russia, the dentist usually does this, so perhaps there's no equivalent position?

    Lübertsy, Russian Federation
At the dental clinic I attend there are стоматОлог, прадонтОлог, гигиенИст.
Гигиенист deals with removing plaque, cleaning teeth - things like that.

    Правильно, парадонтолог.
    There are also стоматолог-хирург, стоматолог-ортодонт and стоматолог-ортопед.
Стоматолог-гигиенист in Russia is also a specific profession from 2001.
