"Desearía que (tú) hubieras ido al cine conmigo el viernes pasado." > I wish that you had gone to the movies with me last Friday

The above example is given in Wikipedia's article on the subjunctive mood, specifically in regards to describing a continuing wish in the past.

But what I'm actually wondering about is not the subjunctive, but the choice of "desearía." Is this the normal choice to express the above?

That's not what I'd have said. Me hubiera gustado que vinieras al cine conmigo el viernes pasado sounds much more natural to me.

The sentence sounds correct to me.

"Desearía no haber hecho ese viaje"

lospazio's sentence is also correct. For all I know both expressions are used.

    Thanks for your replies.

Would it be wrong to say : "Deseo que (tú) hubieras ido al cine conmigo el viernes pasado."

    No. It sounds awkward.

Another possibility "ojalá hubieras ido conmigo...."
