shower party is usually for an upcoming baby, bachelorette party is the right one, though seldom used

There are shower parties for babies and there are shower parties for girls when they are getting married. I have been to too many of them.

A "wedding shower" is a different type of event than the girls' night out type of party. It is more "tame" and the purpose is to receive gifts.

On the other hand, a "bachelorette party" (which is not all seldom-used in the USA) is a rowdier type of event, sometimes including a male stripper. In the mind of the women in the North American culture, the two types of events are as different as night and day.
