distant don't keep us apart

    Hola:
    Muchos conocerán la canción Woman de John Lennon. Hoy estuve traduciéndola para una amiga y me topé con un problema (reasaltado en negrita):

    And woman hold me close to your heart
    However, distant don't keep us apart
    After all it is written in the stars


    No le encuentro el sentido, siento que debería ser distance doesn't keep us apart.
    It's written wrong on purpose?

    No obstante, distantes, no nos mantengas separados (a pesar de la distancia él está con ella, y le pide que no rechace ese vínculo (de sus almas).

    That's not quite right (although your explanation in parentheses is mostly correct). Here are the two pertinent lines.

    And woman, hold me close to your heart,
    However distant, don't keep us apart

    Note the commas I have added. I think it is saying, "No matter how far apart we may be physically, keep me close to your heart." Therefore,

    Por distante que sea, no nos mantengas separados

    Aunque yo la traduciría como:

    "Por distante que estés/ Aunque estés lejos..."

    Porque creo que se refiere a la mujer.

    You're probably right. I was thinking of something vague, like "however distant it is."
