    Hi,

What does double enhancement mean in a legal context?

I'm watching a tv series about law and they are talking about a guy that has been convicted of two major felonies and now is been judged for a third minor ofence. As far as I understand there is something called double enhancement that makes this third ofence become a major one, and if the guy is found gulty in this trial, he'll go to prison for life.

    Thanks.

That sounds like a BE term. In AE it sounds like are describing the three strikes rule, like you said, even if the third offense is a minor one, the convicted person can go to prison for many, many years.
