Ciao a tutti, come tradurreste in italiano la frase:

E poi al mercato c'era quell'aria di festa che rende allegri.

    Here is my attempt

And afterwards at the market there is a joyful fair.
    or
And afterwards at the market there is a grand festive feast.

    Thanks

I would say " And then there was a joyful air at the market which makes us cheer.

And then at the market there was that festive atmosphere that makes people cheerful.

Afterwards = in seguito a qualcosa di ben preciso. Direi che then (poi) è più generico.
There was no festival, just an atmosphere
    C'era = past, there was

    Thank you both for the clarification . . . . . .

And then at the market there was that festive atmosphere that makes people cheerful.

I like the word 'cheerful' from 'Einstein' as it fits the sentance well.

    Thanks Again

Reading the sentence, and with no further context, I would say that "e poi" here means "besides".

    What do other natives think?

    Here is the previous sentence:
Lo interessavano molto le bestie, le macchine, e quando aveva soldi per comprare fiore per il suo piccolo giardino che aveva dietro casa, era tutto contento e si sentiva ricco quanto Bidazzi che era padrone di moltissima terra. E poi al mercato c’era quell’ aria di festa che rende allegri.

    besides. . . . . .
And then there was a joyful air at the market which makes us cheerful. . .

there were interesting animals , and machines and if you had some money to buy flowers for his garden that he has behind his house he felt rich like Bidazzi who owned a lot of property. Besides. . . . .

I think it is very good but natives will allways know best

    grazie

    M
