    Hola:
    Gracias.

I would suggest simply "spend". I do not know if there is a more specific English word.

    Hola, Fernando:
Gracias. Encontré otra traducción, a ver cómo te suena:
For the purposes of exerting the remaining budget, the government is accelerating the expenditure in technology.
    Saludos.

A mi oreja estadounidense suenan raros aquí "exerting" o "executing."
Algo más informal sería "using up" pero prefiero "expending" o "spending."

Gracias, cubaMania. ¡Creo que usaré expending! Saludos, Heidi.

Expending is a new one on me. I can't say I have ever come across it.

If you look at the original

What we are talking about is that their projected spend hasn't happened. In other words there is an underspend on that particular budget. They have budgeted x and spent less which is why there is some money left over. At least here if you working in a statutory setting you do all you can to spend to budget because your department can't transfer budget allocations from one year to the next.

    Here's my attempt:
To address the budget underspend, the government is raising its expenditure on technology.
