Me gustaría poder decir esta frase en inglés con la misma intensidad que tiene en español.

Mi intento "The project failed" me parece demasiado naive

    Hay alguna mejor sugerencia?

Lo puedes traducir mas o menos literalmente: "The project was a shipwreck."
Alternativamente: "The project was a complete disaster."

    Adonis y Sqweky:
Podría utilizarse tal vez "The project broke down" o "The project was shattered" ???????

    Saludos cordiales.

De acuerdo con "the project was a complete disaster". Otra opción: "a complete/miserable failure" o tal vez simplemente "a wreck". Estas me suenan bastante fuerte como el español, creo.

These are beautiful suggestions that I had thought of before posting. You could say "The project tanked" if you wanted to sound a little flippant.

"The project was shattered" sería incorrecta.
"The project broke down" tendría un significado bastante diferente.

    No, no las podrías usar.

    Saludos.

Está bien la traducción y suena muy natural. "Was a (complete) disaster" es más común.

    No longer here.
Much more than shipwreck, people describe things as "a train wreck".

I'd use 'foundered' because that word can be used for a ship that's wrecked or a project that's wrecked/failed.

This is an excellent suggestion, thanks! I will use it

I would caution that with knowing you're audience, however...we don't use that at all in the states.
