Hi - I am reading Cajas De Carton - In the second chapter, the child is trying to better see his family go into the cotton field, so he proceeds: "me subi al toldo del coche". All dictionary translations list "toldo" as an awning or canopy. I assume this phrase refers to climbing onto either the hood or the roof of the car. This is probably a car vintage 1940. What is the correct translation and is this a common idiom? Is it peculiar to Mexican Spanish? Thanks.
