evil flourishes when good men do nothing

    I would like to have a correct translation into French of this quote by Edmund Burke:

    les maux sévissent quand les braves gens n'agissent pas. I'm not too happy with les braves gens.
    Any suggestion welcome.

    I think the exact quote is: "The only thing necessary for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing." La seule chose qui permet au mal de triompher est l'inaction des hommes de bien. ...

    Should we not use a subjunctive "la seule chose qui permette au mal........" Merci.

    There's no need for a subjunctive in that phrase!
    Here is a rephrasing of that translation:
    C'est l'inaction des hommes de bien qui fait triompher le mal.
