    ¡Hola a todos! Necesitaría ayuda con la traducción del término GARRAFA DE GAS. En Argentina, las áreas que no tienen conección de gas natural, generalmente lugares pobres o alejados, utilizan garrafas de gas que son recipientes con gas que pueden ser rellenados cuando el gas que contienen se termina. Then what would be the English for a container such as the one you see below?

    In the industry is known as "gas bottle" or "gas cylinder" as bocha pointed out.

    Las garrafas son como las bonbonas españolas. Son bajitas y gorditas. Serían gas tanks. Los cilindros miden como cinco pies y son relativamente delgados.

    Sí, es lo que pienso también. Y normalmente especificamos el tipo de gas: propane tank, butane tank. "Gas" suena muy ambiguo.

    Sure, butane or propane, otherwise it could be mistaken by the fuel tanks in cars.

    In North America, the kind of gas you name will determine which size tank people are imagining in their minds eye.

    For me, those are propane tanks in your picture. Even if they were actually full of butane, if you said Butane Tank I would picture something much smaller, for camping or refilling a liter maybe.

    Neither 'gas cylinder' or 'gas bottle' say much to me. But then again if you want to stay general and say 'gas tank' then people are going to think of the tank inside an automobile.

    I'm in the process of translating 'garrafa de gas' and even though I think that the gas they're using to heat the school in Neuquén isn't propane, I'm gonna say propane tank because I think that's the only term that will get North Americans thinking in the 'garrafa' container that you have pictured.
