    "Young fox cubs can't resist playing; and playing means fighting. Here Red comes up behind Pretty. He makes out that he's all innocence, but when she's not looking he pounces."

    I would think so. I'm guessing he does that on purpose so "udaje" seems appropriate. "Sprawiać wrażenie" is OK as well I believe, although it does not necessarily have this factor of intentionality that "udawać" has.
