    ¿Cuales son las diferencias?

"¿Cómo está usted?" or "¿Cómo estás?" means "How do you do?" or "¿How are you?".

Cuándo utilizo "How do you do?" or "How are you?".

    Thank you in advance

OK!! "How do you do?" Bueno. "Hi, how are you?" Es muy general y común.

    Entre amigos, "Hi, howya doin"?

    Espero que te sirve

How do you do? may be answered "I am doing well, thank you," but this is very, very formal. "How is John doing," ¿Cómo le va a John? How is John? ¿Cómo está John. "He´s doing well, he's doing great, he's fine..., he´s well."

How do you do?, as Jacinta already told you is very formal, but How are you? ¿Cómo estás?, and How are you doing? ¿Cómo te va? are virtually the same thing.

    Hola a todos:

¿Alguien me podría explicar las diferencias (o matices) que separan estas tres expresiones?

How are you? - How are you doing? - How do you do?

    Gracias.

    Hmm

How do you do?--It's a pleasure meeting you.

I would use that when I first meet someone and only then.

How are you? and How are you doing? are very similar. They both could be very general greetings or they could be made more personal by putting the stress on the ARE.

How ARE you? is more personal than How are you? That would be used when you were really interested about someone's well being. Maybe they were in an accident or were sick you would say How ARE you? or How ARE you doing.

In NYC we say -- How ya doing.-- very informal
