Hello. I want to explain to this teacher that I am stuck at question number 3. How do I say it in japanese? 問3でとどまっている, is that right? I want to tell him that I am really really stuck so that he understands why I am a little late handing in the report, which is 30 minutes late.

    I recommend 「問3でつまずいている」.

    Other possible forms are:
    「問3で手間取っている」
    「問3から先に進めなくなっている」

「とどまっている」sounds rather odd in this context, perhaps because 「とどまる」 implies to stay there intentionally.
