I tried searching for the phrase "I hope you're having a good day". The closest I came was the phrase for I hope you are having a good year. So from what I learned, this is my translation:

I hope you're having a good day = Spero che tu stia avendo un buon giorno.

How did I do with that translation?

    Thanks.

It's good but I think Spero che tu stia avendo una buona giornata sounds better.

It's ok. I would prefer: "Spero che tu stia trascorrendo una buona giornata."
The difference between giorno and giornata is well explained in other threads, as in this post

    Grazie to you both.

Giannaclaudia - Thank you also for providing me with that link on the differences between giorno and giornata. It was very helpful and I think I have a better understanding now!

    :)
