Icelandic: Why are you taking so long.

    Just wondering what is the best way to say this, and some variations on it.

    Can you use Taka in this construction to mean the same as it does in english without literally meanng taking something from somewhere...

    Af hverju ertu svo lengi að þessu / því / gera eitthvað? Af hverju tekur það þig svona langan tíma?

    Yes, you can use taka in a very similar way. Það tekur mig langan tíma - It takes me a long time.

    so is it possible then to say... af hverju ertu að taka svo langan tíma?

    No, not like that I don't think. It can take someone a long time, but someone can't take a long time.
