Jamsheed's Var and the walled city of Ur

    Is there any connection between the word Var "walled enclosure" in Iranic and placenames like Ur the walled city?

    It wouldn't surprise me if it was just a coincidental resemblance, but what makes you so sure?

    Another interesting resemblance between this root Var and Sumerian is its cognate voru-kasha (cf. Caspian) which sounds as if it could correspond to Uruk. What does Uruk mean?
