Hello! I've been taking a German class about American culture this semester, and this word, Konsumterror, has come up a billion times. I've written many definitions of it in my notes, including: consumerism, media circus, forces of the market, and black mail...

What does this word really mean?! I'm not necessarily looking for a direct translation, of course, but I'm thinking that there's got to be a more concrete definition than the four I've written down. Help?

I think it's about pressure on people to be permanent consumers by the stores themselves but also by the media (e.g. celebrity rolemodels). People should buy products regardsless if they need or can afford them. They should regularly buy new things and should not look for quality.
