The "día de los inocentes" is the spanish speaking world's equivalent to "April Fool's day", so the phrase you have there could be translated as "the April fool's day joke/prank".

That's right, "el día de los inocentes" is a Spanish festivity that is celebrated the 28th of december. It is a day in which people normally make some jokes, even it is usual that the TV news bulletin broadcasts one piece of new that is not true, and at the end of the day they tell us which is the joke.
