I am doing my first law translation for a course that I am studying. I am unsure about the format for translating the official names of Spanish Laws. I have to translate the following:
    • Ley 57-1968, de 27 de julio, sobre percepción de cantidades anticipadas en la construcción y venta de viviendas
I have translated it like this:
    • Law 57-1968, 27th July, (cut out sobre?) advance payment in the construction and sale of housing
Does this seem correct? Thank you in advance.

I think you should translate "sobre":

Law 57-1968, 27th July, about advance payment in the construction and sale of housing

I would say Law 57/2968, of July 27th, on....
At least that's how I always translate the name of Spanish Laws into English...

¡Hola! Estoy traduciendo el nombre de una ley también y me pregunto si se dice simplemente "of + date" o si se suele decir "passed on +date". ¡Muchas gracias!

Returning to this thread 6 years after I first published it (and now a fully qualified translator specialising in law), I deal differently with translating Spanish laws depending on the text. My, personally, preferred option (although not the only way to go about it) would be:

Law 57/1968 of 27th July on advance payment in the construction and sale of housing

So in answer to your question: "of+date".

The poster who suggested July 27th must be used to working with American English, since that would be the preferred order in the USA. For UK English, the order is definitely 27th July.
