living vs. life

    This is a quote from the Dark Knight Rises:

    Bruce Wayne: Alfred. I did find someone.
    Alfred: I know, and you lost them. But that's all part of living, sir.

    In the context, can you say "life" instead of "living"?

    For meaning, you can, but I find the continuous sense of "living" to be more powerful, as I usually do.

    Indeed, in this context 'life' would sound more natural to me.
    part of life - life seen as general experience
    part of living - maybe the same as above, but I am more inclined to see 'living' as opposed to 'not living' or 'being dead' or 'not being born' or something like that
