    Wednesday Wotan Mercurius
    Thursday Thor Jupiter
    Friday Frig Venus

The assimilation was done before much of Nordic mythology had been elaborated. Odin later was king of the gods, but earlier he was more of a shapeshifter or trickster god. Thor was assimilated to Jupiter because they both wield a thunderbolt. In Nordic mythology Tiw or Tyr was one handed because his other hand had been eaten by the Fenris wolf. The name is cognate with Zeus. Frig was the wife of Wotan.
