matraca - instrumento musical

    Hello, I am looking for the English translation for the musical instrument called "matraca", a box with a handle that when is turned makes a noise like "traca traca"

    belen, para mí ese instrumento es una carraca. En el diccionario WR y en el Cambridge dan el inglés rattle como equivalente.

    Mi Larousse dice rattle.

    This page says ratchet (Spanish ratchet).

    I think rattle would give the wrong impression. When I hear it, I think of a sphere or box with little balls inside to make noise when you shake it -- what you'd give a baby, or else something like this.

    Entonces rattle sería sonajero más que matraca o carraca...
