I have heard of Mistinguett, who was a French singer many, many moons ago.

There is even a Wiki page.

Mistinguette was a singer, entertainer, and charismatic leader of Paris shows. She was also famous for her troubled love life. There is a short article in English in Wikipedia here.

I agree with most of what Micia93 said, but I tend to still hear this name from time to time. Usually to talk about a young lively woman that you do not really know, but about whom you have a good feeling (at least this is how I use it).

I hope he doesn't think you are a gold digger. The only song that I know by her is "Je Cherche Un Millionaire" :p:D

    You shouldn't be!
I can't say for your friend, but in my mouth it would be positive and appreciative.

I agree with klodaway: it is familiar but not offensive.
