    Hi everyone,
I have heard this little phrase frequently in spoken Polish but no one I have spoken to has been able to give me a translation for it yet.
I suspect it may be something like 'In any case'?

You may be thinking of natomiast. It is one word that can be translated as however, instead, or on the other hand. There are other possible translations too.

    Yes that explains it.
    Thanks very much

I would not use "natomiast" in the meaning of "instead". The etymology of the word may suggest such meaning, but it is confusing.
I would also add the translation "but" (an emphatic "but") to your list.
