Is it correct to write "Nice to hear from you again." when you are answering to an email?

    Thank you in advance

Yup, sure is. In fact, I've said it a few times myself.

I guess it's okay, though maybe a little awkward (with "again").

The "again", to me, is perfectly ok. It actually sounds better with it.

But if you just talked to the person, I don't really see the point.

I would go for "nice hearing from you again".

    Greetings.

The "again," though superfluous, is absolutely idiomatic.

Okay well, maybe it's me then but I don't think I'd say it.

There's no need for you to say it, and it has absolutely no value. So, don't worry, no one will force either you or me to say it.

I just googled it and both forms appear: "nice to hear from you again" and "nice hearing from you again", even though the first appeared more.

    Dear All,

I agree with the phrase, it seems idiomatic English phrase. But I also have the following query:

What if we say, "It is nice to read you again" when replying to an email?

    Thanks

Welcome to the forum, Khaldun. :)

No, I'm afraid that "read you again" doesn't work, although it would seem logical: You are in fact reading the e-mail, not "hearing" it. But we use "hear from you" whether we have received a letter, an e-mail, a phone call, or any forum of communication. All of these variations are possible:
It's nice to hear from you.
It's good to hear from you.
    It's nice hearing from you.
    It's good hearing from you.

It is odd that we write 'hear from you' when we are talking about something written.

Usually, I write it without thinking about it. Every once in a while I notice how strange it is, and write "It was nice to get your email" instead. :)
