Norwegian: å kaste loss

    Hi, I wonder if there's a phrase in English like the Norwegian 'å kaste loss'.

    Like in the sentence: 'Kaia var stappfull av folk da skipet kastet loss.'

    If I understand the Norwegian correctly, it's "to cast off". The past tense in your example would be "... when the ship cast off".

    That's also the translation Haugen gives for the phrase.
