I find the health and safety lectures one gets are downright vexatious because they are, in the words of Stephen Fry, "obvious as a nose bleed", and they are delivered in such a sanctimonious manner.

Is there a word to describe the patronising idiot dispensing this tosh? Asinine doesn't quite do it. I want to capture the patronage as well as the stupidity.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Welcome to WordReference, Matt:) Unfortunately I can't think of a single word that covers both fatuous and condescending:(
